Davorina Petek finished Medical Faculty in Ljubljana and continued her professional engagement in family medicine. She finished training program of family medicine in 1998, her masters study in 2004 and PhD study in 2010 with the research in prevention of cardiovascular disease. She works partly as a specialist of family medicine in Medical Center Ljubljana and partly as an associate professor of family medicine in the Department of Family medicine in Ljubljana, where she is involved in the teaching of students, specialist trainees and in continuous medical education of family doctors.
She is also a mentor to several PhD students. She is a chair of European General Practice Research Network (EGPRN). Her research fields are communication, professionalism, doctor patient relationship, chronic disease and early detection of cancer. She is registered researcher and expert in qualitative research methods. She is regularly giving lectures to the students of medical faculties in Croatia, Monte Negro, and is a member of specialist exam committee in Macedonia. She is also a member of the Main board of Slovenian Medical Society, vice president of the Slovenian Society for Family medicine, National supervisor for the quality of specialist training in family medicine and a chair of the Expert council for Family medicine at the Slovenian Medical Society.
In her free time she enjoys reading literature, music and relaxing sport activities and, mostly, spending time with family and friends. When she has more time, she will improve her cooking skills.
